Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Supervisor

Supervision

What I offer in supervision:

In supervision I offer a safe place for you to come and talk about your client work. Supervision offers an opportunity to share the counselling work you are involved in, to look at areas that you may feel are stuck or blocked with your clients and to talk about the environment that you are counselling in, whether this is in private practice, if you are employed as a counsellor or if you are in a counselling placement.

My role is to keep you and your clients safe, to help you work professionally and ethically, always keeping the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework in mind.

I see a strong educational component to supervision and feel it is important that we work collaboratively as supervisor and supervisee, giving you an opportunity to look at different ways of working, discussing different counselling models and theories and finding the best way forward for your work as a counsellor.

The relationship we develop is very important to the work that we will do together, as supervisor and supervisee. It is important that you feel comfortable and safe with me, so that you can be honest and open about your client work during supervision, thereby enabling you to look at issues that are affecting your work and find ways of moving forward positively.

I will also want to get to know you as a person and understand you in the context of your life as a whole. Counselling not only involves you as a professional counsellor, you also bring yourself and your life experiences to the work that you do with your clients. I see a part of my role as understanding you as a person and understanding the things that may impact your work, so that I can protect you and your clients, and also offer you support and help in your counselling work.

My counselling work:

Over five years ago I was involved in setting up a charitable counselling service, I am now the Counselling Coordinator for this service and I line manage and supervise student counsellors and oversee all referrals and assessments. I am also the Lead Therapist for a bereavement charity, as part of my role as Lead Therapist, I take referrals, undertake all assessments, line manage and supervise trained therapists and student/volunteer therapists, along with working directly with the families referred to our service. I also have a private practice, where I see adults, teenagers/young adults, children, couples and families.

My background:

Gestalt Therapy is my core model of counselling, I undertook my training at the Heartwood Institute in Dartington, where I went on to achieve the Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, along with training in CBT. Since my initial training I continued my training following the level 5 and undertook the intermediate level course in Systemic Practice (family therapy), which is an area I am particularly interested in and use with families and couples within my private practice and the bereavement charity. I have also got the Advanced Certificate in Relationship Therapy delivered by Juliet Grayson and approved by CORST and I work extensively with couples in my private practice.

During my counselling training/career I have worked at a Sure Start Children’s Centre counselling individuals and couples. I have worked in the Family Therapy Clinic at CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) working with families, and I have worked with young people at the Youth Enquiry Service.

I feel that the work that I have done, and that I am currently doing, gives me a broad range of experience and knowledge in different areas of counselling and all of this work informs my work as a supervisor.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Supervision training:

I am a fully qualified and experienced supervisor. I have achieved the Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision, which is awarded by the CPCAB.

To book an appointment:

I offer a free, one hour, no obligation session which gives you the opportunity to come and meet with me, or alternatively this can be done over Skype, to talk about what you would hope to get from supervision. At this initial session I can tell you more about how I work and what I can offer to you in supervision. This meeting will give you an opportunity of deciding whether you feel comfortable with me, along with hearing about how I work as a supervisor, helping you to decide whether you would like to work with me as your supervisor.

Fees:

£45 for an hour or £60 for an hour and a half.
